DESCRIPTION:On October 25\, 2025\, the Filipino Canadian Lawyers Network (FCLN-RAPC)\, in coordination with the Migrant Workers Centre (MWC) British Columbia\, held a free legal workshop for migrant workers. \nThe seminar was a resounding success\, with 75% of the attendees being Filipino women. Attendees were highly engaged — listening intently and asking thoughtful questions throughout the presentation made by Melissa Remulla Briones\, JD\, CPHR\, CIC.C \nHer deep knowledge of family and employment law shone through as she addressed each question with clarity and compassion — even delving into related topics like wills and estates. The MWC expressed interest in hosting a follow-up seminar on that topic in partnership with FCLN. \nWe’d like to thank Melissa\, Isabelle Guevara\, Franco Cabanos\, and Patty Salas for organizing and making the event happen\, a big thank you to everyone who joined us for this meaningful and empowering session!

This special event will bring together members of the legal community\, students\, and supporters to honour trailblazers whose work has shaped the profession and strengthened the Filipino Canadian legal network. \nThis year\, we are proud to recognize two distinguished honourees: \nEmilio Binavince – A respected legal scholar and practitioner\, Emilio Binavince is a former law professor at the University of Ottawa and founder of the Ottawa Law Review. Over the course of his career\, he was a partner at Gowling & Henderson and later led his own firm\, Binavince and Associates Professional Corporation. He argued constitutional\, intellectual property\, tax\, and civil litigation cases at all levels of court before retiring in 2006. His legacy continues to inspire new generations of legal scholars and practitioners. \nRamon Andal – With more than 35 years in practice\, Ramon Andal is widely recognized for his expertise in insurance law. He served as Contributing Editor to Insurance Law in Canada and the Insurance Title of the Canadian Encyclopedic Digest. He was also a founding member of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers in 2007\, helping build a vibrant and supportive legal community across Canada. \nWe are also honoured to welcome Steve A. Coroza as our Keynote Speaker\, who will share insights on leadership\, service\, and community within the legal profession. \nCelebrate with us as we recognize excellence\, strengthen connections\, and support the mission of FCLN–RAPC to uplift and empower Filipino Canadian legal professionals. \n✨ All members of the legal community\, students\, and supporters are welcome.
