Vancouver SUV Attack at the Lapu Lapu Festival

With profound sorrow and heavy hearts, we at the Filipino Canadian Lawyers Network-Réseau des avocats philippinos extend our deepest condolences to the individuals, families and Filipino Canadian community affected by the tragic SUV ramming at the Vancouver Lapu Lapu Festival on April 26, 2025.

We are all deeply shaken by the devastating loss to the Vancouver and broader Filipino Canadian community during what should have been a celebration of Filipino culture and heritage. The lives taken, the individuals injured, and the families irreparably harmed by this reckless act of violence represent not just individual tragedies, but a collective wound to the whole Filipino Canadian community.

In times like these, we are reminded of the deep bonds that unite our kababayan. We are strong in our unity, faith and community one another during the darkest of hours. Today, we stand together in grief, but also in solidarity and love. We are committed to supporting the victims’ families, our affected colleagues, and the broader Filipino community in Vancouver during this difficult time.

We express our gratitude to the first responders, healthcare workers, and volunteers who acted swiftly and compassionately in response to the driver’s actions. As we navigate this painful event, hold your loved ones close, honour the memories of those who have died, and find strength in our shared values and bonds.

To the families who have lost loved ones and who are waiting in fear at the hospital:

Kasama ka namin sa iyong kalungkutan. Ibinabahagi namin sa iyong kalungkutan.

We stand with you in sympathy and solidarity.
